Weetwood Handicap Day at Toowoomba Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 25/8/2021

It’s Toowoomba’s major race day, and we’ll be treated to nine quality contests on 2021 Weetwood Handicap Day!

I’ve run the rule over every galloper and race, and you can find my 2021 Weetwood Handicap Day Tips below.

12:38PM – Barrier Reef Pools BM72 Handicap, (1850m) – No. 2 Fortified

Last-start winner Fortified will go around a clear favourite in the first on Weetwood Day, and rightly so.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding needed his first run back when failing to finish off at the Gold Coast, but he responded with an eye-catching effort and win in a similar race at Doomben last time, and he will only improve for that effort.

1:13PM – Toowoomba Plastics Class 6 Handicap, (1625m) – No. 2 Kubrick

I’m going to give Kubrick another chance to strike in Toowoomba this week.

He was definitely at his best during his three-year-old prep, but Kubrick has continued to return the Waller stable some lovely efforts and result, and he has placed in two of three back from a spell this time.

A mile is ideal, as is barrier 5, and he should get every opportunity in something of this quality.

1:48pm – Moore Trailers BM70 Handicap, (1000m) – No Bet

Lyrical Girl has opened a clear $1.70 favourite in betting ahead of Race 3 on Weetwood Handicap Day.

She is a very classy horse and I think she’ll probably win, but that quote is far too short for me, and I am happy to watch.

2:23pm – Toowoomba Truck Spares Pat O’Shea Plate, (1000m) – No Bet

Every horse is on debut in this year’s Pat O’Shea Plate, and this is another one that I am happy to let go through to the keeper.

2:58pm – Magic Millions Garden City Guineas, (1625m) – No. 2 Whitewater

I’m pretty keen on Whitewater in this year’s Toowoomba Guineas and I am going to have a decent crack.

Whitewater has made just three appearances at the races since debuting, but he is yet to turn in a poor performance, and he broke his maiden on the Gold Coast two back, before finishing second behind the talented Starnantes at Doomben last time.

With that horse given some hope of a competitive effort in the Golden Rose, I am more than happy to follow the formline into something like this.

3:37pm – K&R Plumbing Supplies BM80 Handicap, (1300m) – No. 5 Vinco

Tony Gollan will saddle several leading contenders in this contest, including Vinco.

Vinco endured a torrid run and wasn’t able to get out at Eagle Farm last time, but his form prior to that was excellent, and included a win over several of these rivals two starts back.

He looks to be at peak fitness for Saturday’s contest, he has drawn ideally, and I am more than happy to take some of the $5 that is available at publish.

4:17pm – Toowoomba Cup, (2000m) – No. 2 Wapiti

This is a strong edition of the Toowoomba Cup, but I am going to have something on Wapiti.

Wapiti beat home a classy field in last year’s Winx Guineas, and while he hasn’t managed to win since that effort, he also hasn’t returned a poor effort.

He takes his place in the Toowoomba Cup field fourth-up and off the back of a credible second behind Ballistic Boy over a mile at Doomben, and getting out to 2000m at this point of his prep looks as though it will suit.

5:00pm – Listed Weetwood Handicap, (1200m) – No. 2 Desert Lord & No. 4 Tactical Advantage

It’s a typically open contest and there is big value to be found in 2021 Weetwood Handicap betting.

Desert Lord has returned to the races in excellent form this time, and this looks another winnable race for him.

Desert Lord has recorded eight wins and as many minors from his twenty-five trips to the races to date, and he takes his place in the Weetwood following an eye-catching performance and win in the Goldmarket.

I like that he has had a trial since that effort, and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.

I’m also going to have a saver on Tactical Advantage at a big price ($21 at publish).

It is fair to say that he hasn’t show his best form this time, but he strikes this race rock-hard fit, and his best perform would see him into the finish.

5:40pm – Eureka Stud BM75 Handicap, (1200m) – No. 7 Frozen In Time

Frozen In Time has found strong form, and he looks well placed to get it in the last on Weetwood Handicap Day.

The Kris Lees-trained galloper strode clear to salute at a weaker grade on the Sunshine Coast two starts back, and he charged through to only just miss at Eagle Farm last time.

He has drawn well into this contest and with even luck, he can win again.
