Week 7 of the A-League boasts a full complement of matches and is underway in Western Sydney on Friday night when the Wanderers host the Mariners.
There’s plenty of value to be found in betting for all five matches this weekend and we’re set for some terrific contests between similarly-performing clubs.
WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS VS CENTRAL COAST MARINERS
Last 5 Matches: LWWLL
Ladder Position: 8th
Goal Difference: -5 (GF 6, GA 11)
Last 5 Matches: DLLLL
Ladder Position: 10th
Goal Difference: -8 (GF 6, GA 14)
Round 7 is underway when a couple of the league’s strugglers do battle in Western Sydney. The Wanderers were given a real wake up call when they left Melbourne on the wrong end of a 4-0 score line last week, but this does loom as an ideal opportunity to respond. They’re too short for me in head-to-head betting given the Mariners’ tough performances against Sydney FC last week, and I’m happy to sit on the fence.
SYDNEY FC VS WELLINGTON PHOENIX
Last 5 Matches: WWDLW
Ladder Position: 3rd
Goal Difference: +5 (GF 10, GA 5)
Last 5 Matches: DLLLD
Ladder Position: 9th
Goal Difference: -6 (GF 4, GA 10)
Betting suggests that this will be the most one-sided match in Week 7 of the A-League and Sydney FC really should be recording a dominant win. They snuck away with the result against a spirited Mariners side last week, while the Phoenix probably produced their best performance of the season to draw with the table-topping Glory. Away from New Zealand however, the Phoenix stand little chance.
MELBOURNE VICTORY VS ADELAIDE UNITED
Last 5 Matches: LWWWW
Ladder Position: 2nd
Goal Difference: +7 (GF, GA 7)
Last 5 Matches: DWLWW
Ladder Position: 4th
Goal Difference: +4 (GF 10, GA 6)
This looks like being one of the better contests of the weekend, but the Victory really announced their title intentions last weekend and I’m confident that they will record another win here. Adelaide have found some very good form of their own recently and enter this match off the back of another good win over Brisbane Roar, but this is a massive task.
PERTH GLORY VS MELBOURNE CITY
Last 5 Matches: WWWWD
Ladder Position: 1st
Goal Difference: +5 (GF 12, GA 7)
Last 5 Matches: DLWLW
Ladder Position: 5th
Goal Difference: +1 (GF 8, GA 7)
The Glory have been the benchmark this season, but they returned a lacklustre effort last week and are lucky to have secured a draw with the lowly Phoenix. They meet an inconsistent City side this week, who show glimpses of brilliance between forgettable football. In the nation’s west, I’m confident that the Glory can get things back on track.
NEWCASTLE JETS VS BRISBANE ROAR
Last 5 Matches: DLDWL
Ladder Position: 7th
Goal Difference: -3 (GF 5, GA 8)
Last 5 Matches: DLDWL
Ladder Position: 6th
Goal Difference: 9 (GF 7, GA 7)
Two clubs with an identical win-loss record through the last five weeks will square off in the final match of the round. The Jets were given a wake-up call by Melbourne City last week and they will relish a return home. Brisbane are extremely difficult to trust from a betting perspective this season and will need to be at their best on the road.
