Atlanta v Green Bay | Monday, January 23, 7.05am (AEDT), Georgia Dome, Atlanta
If you love a shootout then you’ll love the NFC Championship game between Matt Ryan’s Atlanta Falcons and Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers.
The last time the two teams met was in the regular season when the Falcons ran out 33-32 winners as Ryanwent 28 of 35 for 288 yards, three TDs and zero INT while Rodgers threw for 246 yards for four TDs and zero INT.
Putting it simply, the Falcons and Packers know how to score and score heavily. Atlanta put up 540 points in the regular season which is tied for the 8th most in NFL history.
The Packers are averaging 36 points in the post-season and Rodgers has thrown 24 TDs and just one INT since November 20.
Green Bay’s two-time MVP is at the top of his game but you could also say the same for Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
A prime candidate for the MVP award, Ryan has enjoyed a career-best season and he exemplified those credentials while guiding the Falcons to a 36-20 win over Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks in last week’s divisional playoff.
Both teams have key wide receivers under an injury cloud with Atlanta’s Julio Jones and Green Bay’s Jordy Nelson both listed as questionable.
Falcons coach Dan Quinn though is openly optimistic of Jones’ chances of taking to the field saying the Falcons wide out was ”ready to rock’’ despite a toe sprain inhibiting his practice during the week.
History beckons for the Atlanta Falcons who are going to the NFC Championship game for just the fourth time in 51 years.
The NFC South champions though face a massive hurdle in the form of Aaron Rodgers and the rampant Packers, winners of eight straight.
Rodgers seems to have all the answers at the moment and his 31-yard dart to Jared Cook to set up Mason Crosby’s 51-yard match winning field goal against Dallas typifies the golden form he is in at present.
Packers to make it nine on the trot.
