Let’s get ready to River City Rumble! Jeff ‘the Hornet’ Horn takes on Anthony ‘The Man’ Mundine on Friday night in Brisbane. Horn needs a win after Terence Crawford ripped his WBO welterweight belt away from him whilst the Man continues to defy father time and is looking for an upset at 43 years old!

JEFF HORN (18-1-1)
PREVIOUS FIGHT: vs Terence Crawford (TKO) LOSS
STRENGTHS: Tough as nails.
Horn’s reign as the WBO welterweight champion was ended in June by Terence Crawford with the American fighter absolutely dominating the Hornet before a TKO in the ninth round. Crawford exposed the Aussie fighter, with Horn struggling to land clean punches. Crawford used his superior speed and footwork to make it a very one-sided fight. The Wolf knows that Crawford and Mundine are on completely different levels, the only thing the Man is getting from Crawford is an autograph.
ANTHONY MUNDINE (48-8)
PREVIOUS FIGHT: vs Tommy Browne (TKO) WIN
STRENGTHS: Can talk, conditioning, speed
Like John Farnham the Wolf thought Mundine had already retired so to see him taking on one of Australia’s most promising boxers left us a little puzzled. “What the…” was our response. So, can a man who believes himself to be the best crossover athlete in the history of Australia sport cause an upset in this bout? Unlikely.
Mundine has explained that he will use his speed and movement to prevent Horn from establishing his rhythm. The Wolf thinks that Mundine’s best option is to approach the fight in the same way that Horn fought Pacquiao, make sure the fight goes the distance and box well enough to take it on points.
Mundine is a huge step down in class for the Hornet. Whilst Crawford delivered what was essentially a masterclass in Horn’s last fight, the Man is now 43 years old and whilst he will go into this fight super fit, it’s disrespectful to even mention Horn’s last opponent in the same sentence as Mundine.
The Wolf thinks that Horn will have a lot to prove in this fight. If he defeats Mundine on points then that would be a victory to the Man. He needs a comprehensive win to get his career back on the right track. We don’t expect Horn to take too many risks early but as the fight develops he should win by KO or TKO.
