One team is on a 62-game losing streak while the other hasn’t tasted victory for over 1,000 days – on September 2 one of these streaks will finally end!

Online bookie today launches the ‘Battle of the Battlers’ – a clash between two battling Victorian footy clubs, the Nunawading Lions and Ardmona Cats.

The marquee fixture will be held at Nunawading’s Koonung Reserve (Blackburn North) on the 2nd of September – with $10,000 going to the winner.

First bounce is at 1pm and entry is free.

The game will be broadcast LIVE via Sportsbet’s social media channels and wagering platforms.

Sportsbet have organised a star studded line-up to attend, including former Western Bulldogs and Richmond player Nathan Brown while Brownlow medallists Dane Swan and Shane Crawford will act as runners on the day. More big names will be also be announced.

The match will help inject much needed funds into the clubs with both the Lions, who last tasted victory in June 2015, and Ardmona, who haven’t sung their team song since July 18, 2015, receiving match payments to participate and all food and beverage sales being split.

“We all fell in love with footy playing for our local clubs. Earlier this year we got wind Ardmona was battling to stay alive financially and were being flogged by 300 each week so we decided we needed to help them and grassroots footy,” said’s Ella Zampatti.

“We then signed on to be their sponsor and helped get the message out to find them new players and it worked. Many local footy clubs are in a similar position so we’re putting on the game to do our bit for two true-blue battler clubs.

“Over 1,000 people have already indicated they’ll be attending via Facebook since we launched the event yesterday. We also have a few other big announcements to make between now and game day!”
