For the second time is as many weeks, Victoria’s major midweek card will be hosted at Bendigo, and eight races will be run and won.
The rail will remain in the true position around the entire course and at publish, the track is rated in the Good (4) range.
Race 1 – 12:45pm AEDT – Cadell Food Services Fillies & Mares Maiden (1400m)
Wyld Savanna has stripped fitter for three starts back from a spell and I’m happy to give her one last chance at Bendigo on Wednesday.
The John Sadler-trained filly filled the minors at her first two back this time and was last seen finishing fourth, beaten four lengths by War General at Ballarat.
She is drawn and weighted fairly and doesn’t have any excuses this week.
Race 2 – 1:20pm AEDT – Smartline Finance 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate (1100m)
There isn’t a lot of form to filter through ahead of the second at Bendigo on Wednesday, but I’m going to have a small bet on the resuming Cos I’m The Boss.
Cos I’m The Boss made just one trip to races during her debut prep, but raced well and filly the minors at Geelong.
She has reportedly flourished in her time away from racing and can begin her rise through the grades.
Race 3 – 2:00pm AEDT – Ready Bake Classic Maiden Plate (1100m)
This is another maiden race filled with debutants and runners who haven’t shown a lot at the races yet.
I can’t find anything I’m particularly confident in, and I am happy to stay out.
Race 4 – 2:40pm AEDT – Ross Caldwell Plumbing Maiden Plate (2400m)
Yensir will take winning form into the fourth at Bendigo on Wednesday and looks well placed to make it two in a row.
The Maher & Eustace-trained import needed the run when he finished midfield at Camperdown on debut in Australia, but ran second at The ‘Bool before winning at Oakbank last time out.
This is obviously a return to racing on the flat after going over the jumps, but he clearly has huge ability and can win again.
Race 5 – 3:20pm AEDT – McCain SureCrisp Fries BM70 Handicap (2400m)
Cernan has improved for three back from a spell and is ready to win at Bendigo this week.
The Sea The Moon gelding finished midfield in consecutive races at The Valley in February and March and only just missed when a head second behind Green Ivy at Sale last time out.
Fitter fourth-up and out to a mile and a half, this looks the perfect race for him.
Race 6 – 3:55pm AEDT – Edlyn Foods BM64 Handicap (1600m)
This shapes as one of the better contests at Bendigo on Wednesday and a horse like Redwood Rising has claims on winning at a nice price.
Redwood Rising clearly needed the run and a longer trip when he finished eighth of nine at Cranbourne when resuming, but he is yet to miss placing at this point of his preparation, and has won twice at a mile previously.
He’s drawn to receive a lovely run in transit and is up to the class.
Race 7 – 4:30pm AEDT – Benchmark 70 Handicap (1400m)
Dirty Deeds is ready to return to winning form at Bendigo this week.
The Dundeel gelding raced well around some good horses earlier in autumn, and returned from a freshen up to finish second, beaten a length and a half at Ladbrokes Park earlier this month.
He’ll take plenty of improvement into this race, is drawn and weighted well and perhaps most importantly, will be ridden by Jamie Kah.
Race 8 – 5:05pm AEDT – Budget Bendigo Car & Truck Rental Fillies And Mares BM70 Handicap (1300m)
Safeeya has had a short spell since finishing down the order over a mile at Ladbrokes Park in early February, but races well fresh and can make a winning return in the last at Bendigo on Wednesday.
Fastnet Rock filly broke her maiden at Cranbourne when resuming last time, finishing in the minors at her next two starts and finding form around some above-average gallopers.
She returned a lovely effort at the trials a couple of weeks ago and will take beating on Wednesday.
