Bragging rights and vital competition points go on the line when the Brumbies and the Waratahs renew their historic rivalry in the nation’s capital on Saturday evening.
Plenty of contests between these two proud clubs have worked their way into Australian rugby folklore over the years, but it is fair to say that there is a big class difference between the Brumbies and the Waratahs in 2021, and the former should just be winning again.
The Brumbies weathered a spirited Week 1 fight from the Force in Perth to ultimately walk away comfortable 27-11 victors.
Leading 13-6 at the break, the Brumbies’ experience and depth of talent continued to fire in the second period and they too will only improve into Round 2.
Despite stealing the limelight early when Jake Gordon crossed just minutes into the Waratahs’ match with the Reds, the difference in experience was telling in Round 1 and they ultimately suffered a record 41-7 defeat.
Given the Brumbies are widely considered the best team in Super Rugby Australia, it’s tough imagining the Waratahs turning themselves around enough to compete for the full eight minutes this week.
