Race 1 – 1:20AM – Microphone @ Darley Handicap, (1250m)
Santorini Sun returned a nice effort on debut here late last month and can fight out the finish again on Wednesday.
The Choisir filly showed ability at the trials prior to making her debut, and she kept all of her best work for late when third, beaten a length over this route.
With improvement for the experience, I think she’ll race well again.
Race 2 – 2:00PM – Sharp Extensive IT Handicap, (1250m)
All but one of the nine confirmed starters in Race 2 will be making their debuts and the only runner with race day experience, Stick To Your Guns, didn’t show a lot at his first appearance.
I am happy to stay out of this one from a betting perspective.
Race 3 – 2:35pm – Vinery Stud Handicap, (1250m)
Santorini Sun returned a nice effort on debut here late last month and can fight out the finish again on Wednesday.
The Choisir filly showed ability at the trials prior to making her debut, and she kept all of her best work for late when third, beaten a length over this route.
With improvement for the experience, I think she’ll race well again.
Race 4 – 3:10pm – XXXX Handicap, (1900m)
Kutayha can return to winning form on Wednesday now that he is at peak fitness.
The Savabeel gelding finished fourth at each of his first two starts back this time, and he has filled the minors at each of his last two, including a Saturday race at Rosehill.
This looks to be an appropriate drop in class and the 1900m should be ideal.
Race 5 – 3:45pm – China Horse Club Handicap, (1200m)
El Cohete strikes a very winnable race at Canterbury this week.
The Joe Pride-trained gelding needed the run when seventh, beaten more than six lengths by Lillemor at Randwick when fresh, but he took plenty of improvement into his second campaign start and finished second behind the talented Fastconi here at Canterbury.
Fitter third-up and without another horse of that quality in this field, El Cohete is ready to win.
Race 6 – 4:20pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap, (1550m)
O’mudgee can return to winning form in the last at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The Sacred Falls gelding has been up and racing for some time, but he has continued to return impressive efforts in decent races, and he enters this race off the Back of a credible fifth behind Cisco Bay at Randwick.
He’s rock-hard fit, drawn ideally, and he is another runner whose claims on winning have been strengthen by the booking of James McDonald.
