We’re off to Canterbury on Wednesday, June 9th for another exciting seven-race program.
The rail will be set out three metres around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Soft (6) range.

Race 1 – 12:55pm – Blue Point @ Darley Handicap (1100m)
I haven’t been particularly taken with what any of the juveniles contesting Race 1 at Canterbury have done so far, and two are on debut.
I’m happy to stay out of this race from a betting perspective.
Race 2 – 1:30pm – Vinery Stud Plate (1100m)
Preemptory will take plenty of improvement into his second career start at Canterbury on Wednesday and can break his maiden.
The Winning Rupert colt had a handful of trials prior to debuting and raced fairly to finish midfield at Randwick-Kensington on debut.
He’ll enjoy plenty of improvement and we can have an each-way play at the price.
Race 3 – 2:05pm – XXXX Plate (1250m)
Barrichello can break his maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The Sebring gelding showed ability at the trials before making his debut, and he raced home well to finish fourth, beaten a little more than two lengths by Magic Ruler here at Canterbury.
I like that he’s had a trial since that effort, and he’s drawn to receive a lovely run under James McDonald.
Race 4 – 2:40pm – Robrick Lodge Handicap (1100m)
Irish Angel hasn’t been seen at the races since March, but she races well fresh, and she can make a winning return on Wednesday.
The Not A Single Doubt mare was a strong and consistent performer last time, culminating in an impressive win in BM72 company at Randwick-Kensington.
She has had the benefit of a trial in the lead-up to her return and has options from the rails draw.
Race 5 – 3:15pm – China Horse Club Handicap (1100m)
Fastconi has continued to improve with racing this time, and he is ready to win at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding ran home well to fill the minors behind Olympic Legend when resuming in April, and he has finished second at each of his last two starts, finding form around some classy gallopers.
He looks to be in peak condition for this race, he has conditions to suit and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.
Race 6 – 3:50pm – Ranvet Handicap (1550m)
This looks a winnable race for Salsonic.
Salsonic has been something of an enigmatic galloper throughout his career, but he has managed plenty of eye-catching performances and results along the way, and he won in Group 2 company during his three-year-old season most notably.
He has improved for two starts back this time, including a credible second behind Katalin last time out, and a repeat of that effort would see him into the finish again.
Race 7 – 4:25pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap (1900m)
I’m happy to give Montserrat another chance in the last at Canterbury this week.
Montserrat has been a good horse for the Newnham stables throughout his last few preparations, and he has noticeably improved with each of his three starts back this time, including an impressive second at this track and distance a fortnight ago.
He’ll get some relief in the weights under Tyler Schiller and he looks up to running another bold race.
