There’s no rest for the wicked this season as Formula One ventures across the border to Hungary on Sunday night.
Mercedes have gone back-to-back since the season started with both Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton winning the Austrian and Styrian Grand Prix’s simultaneously, and it doesn’t appear either Ferrari or Red Bull are capable of challenging the favourites again this week.
The Hungaroring is well-known for its hostile summer conditions, which should make life difficult for several constructors and drivers across the entire weekend.
As for punters, we’ve made it a little easier by analysing the entire 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix in our preview below.
2020 British Grand Prix Race Winner
It is no surprise to find Lewis Hamilton as the odds-on favourite as he attempts to break his own record with seven wins at Silverstone.
The six-time world champion had it all too easy at the Hungaroring a fortnight ago leading from start to finish – another reminder that no constructor is even close to matching the prowess of Mercedes right now.
Teammate Valtteri Bottas is the next best in the market, but even he looked a step behind Hamilton in Hungary. The Finn held on for a narrow win in Austria to restart the season, but since then has looked second-best to the world’s top driver.
During their time as teammates, Hamilton has claimed pole position twice at Silverstone.
Hamilton should win this easy, but with very little value on offer head-to-head, maybe look elsewhere in the market.
2020 British Grand Prix Podium Finish
Sergio Perez at $3.00
Racing Point has really put the pressure on Red Bull and Ferrari since the season started and there’s a lot to like about them here on their home track.
Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez both qualified third and fourth respectively in Hungary, and while their race day didn’t turn out quite as successful, both drivers still showed plenty of class fending off the likes of Max Verstappen for the entirety.
Perez got away to a slow start a fortnight ago, so he shouldn’t be short on motivation this weekend.
The cars are clearly in good order, so if the team can execute a well thought out strategy, the current odds on offer for Perez to finish on the podium appear great value.
2020 British Grand Prix First Car Retirement
Renault at $7.50
The 2020 hasn’t gone as planned for Renault as they currently find themselves sitting sixth in the constructors’ standings.
Daniel Ricciardo made up ground to finish eighth at the Hungaroring, while teammate Esteban Ocon had no such luck finishing 14th.
Renault has tinkered with their cars over the two week break and are apparently racing with a different downforce level this weekend, which could be a recipe for disaster.
The team have stated the upgrade should have them more competitive, but we’ve seen this same story go south very quickly in recent years.
