Gold Coast Titans vs Cronulla Sharks Preview
Cronulla’s premiership smoky credentials have taken a hit in recent weeks, bookending a heroic shorthanded win over the Warriors with limp Suncorp Stadium losses to Brisbane and Canberra. The Sharks’ attack was atrocious in a 30-10 loss to a Raiders side that had three players binned.
Nicho Hynes returns to halfback in a smart move by coach Craig Fitzgibbon. Former rugby sevens star Lachlan Miller is in the No.1 hotseat. Dale Finucane (knee/head knock) is a big loss, but Andrew Fifita is a pretty handy player to bring into the 17.
Gold Coast halted a five-game slide with a gutsy golden point win over St George Illawarra in the Brisbane wet. Returning fullback Jayden Campbell was the catalyst for the drought-breaker, magnificent all-round after seven weeks watching on from the sideline. Moe Fotuaika can also take a decent chunk of the credit.
The Sharks have won their last six against the Titans by an average margin of 18.6 points. Last season’s sole encounter saw Cronulla power away to a 38-10 victory in Coffs Harbour with Ronaldo Mulitalo bagging a double.
The unchanged Titans will fancy their chances of an upset here, but there’s still big question marks around their defence – especially on the edge, where the Sharks are experts at exploiting weakness. Hynes’ return to the No.7 should be enough to ensure the visitors bounce back.
