Hawthorn Hawks vs Richmond Tigers Preview
The Tigers have their sights set on a hat-trick when they meet the Hawks on Saturday.
Dustin Martin’s return to Punt Rd helped inspire the yellow and black to a second straight win over Collingwood last week, a game highlighted by Tom Lynch’s six-goal bag.
As for the Hawks, it’s safe to say they’d probably like a do-over on last week’s game against Essendon.
Hawthorn was the better team for three quarters before Peter Wright inspired a comeback for the ages.
That result had to be disappointing for first-year head coach Sam Mitchell on the back of the performance against Melbourne the week prior, especially after heading into the final term with a healthy lead.
The Hawks have historically responded well to similar performances in year’s past, but it just feels like the Tigers have rediscovered some of their mojo over the last month.
Richmond’s pressure has been outstanding as the season has worn on, while they’ve also been one of the more accurate teams in the competition, now ranking second in points per game.
You can’t discount the Hawks giving this a real shake, but since their goals seem to come in spurts, this does look a tall order against a Tigers outfit riding a healthy wave of momentum.
