Hawthorn Hawks vs Western Bulldogs Preview
The Dogs have faced “must-win” games for the last six weeks, but this time around, there’s actual truth to the statement.
The Grand Final runner-ups simply have to win against the Hawks in Launceston to stand a chance at making the eight, while they also need Carlton to lose to Collingwood later on.
Luke Beveridge’s side was less than impressive against GWS last week, missing targets and settling for just nine goals in a low-scoring, five-point win.
A month ago the Dogs ran out 10-point winners over Melbourne, but their last two games have left a lot to be desired on the scoreboard.
The Hawks faced similar problems last week in the loss to the Tigers, giving up eight goals to Tom Lynch while struggling for accuracy down the other end.
Hawthorn had quietly been in winning form prior to last week, but it was always difficult to read too much into wins over Gold Coast, North Melbourne, and West Coast.
On the flip side, the Hawks have been a tough out down in Tassie for the last two decades, and with plenty of rain about throughout the week, we could be in for some more low-scoring, wet weather footy.
Neither side inspires much confidence from a betting perspective, although it is worth noting the Dogs kicked 19 goals in a big win over the Hawks back in June.
This one could really go either way, but for the sake of some added drama, the Dogs to win and the Under looks a decent value play.
