Melbourne stars Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith could be in for a big week judging by the Dally M markets with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.
Betting on the event closed when votes went private after round 16, but it was Cronk at $4.00 and Smith at $5.00 heading the market at that stage. Since that point, they’ve only enhanced their chances as the Storm went on to secure the minor premiership.
Johnathan Thurston is next in line at $5.50 as he chases a fifth Dally M, while Canberra hooker Josh Hodgson ($8.00) and Cowboy Jason Taumalolo ($11) would have to be serious contenders given their finish to the regular season.
Ten punters backed Hodgson at $101 before the season started while two customers grabbed Taumalolo at even bigger odds of $151.
Some of the interesting bets include:
- $1,000 on Johnathan Thurston at $4.50
- $200 on Josh Hodgson at $101
- $4.00 on Jason Taumalolo at $151
- $2.00 on Luke Lewis at $501
“If you got Taumalolo at $151 or Hodgson at $101, you’d be pretty excited right about now but the Storm duo of Cronk and Smith will be hard to toss,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
