New Zealand Warriors vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Preview
They said it couldn’t be done but the New Zealand Warriors could, in fact, play worse than they did while losing 70-10 to the Storm. Unable to score against 11 Sharks, the Warriors fell to an embarrassing 29-10 defeat. Meanwhile, the South Sydney Rabbitohs will also be licking their wounds following a 32-12 loss to the Broncos.
Tohu Harris is back for the Warriors but Nathan Brown has named him on the edge. Marcelo Montoya is also back which pushes Adam Pompey to the centres and Rocco Berry to the reserves. The Rabbitohs have lost Cameron Murray with Jai Arrow now into lock and Jacob Host to the edge. Tom Burgess is also in for Davvy Moale while Jaxson Paulo replaces Isaiah Tass. Notably, Kodi Nikorima is straight onto the bench.
There will be talk about a ‘bounceback’ game for the Warriors but they bounced back from a 60-point thrashing with an ugly 21-20 win over the Raiders in Round 8. Regardless of how poor they were last week, we can’t expect them to improve by much. The Rabbitohs, on the other hand, are ever so slowly showing signs of life. While they failed to make too much of a dent in the Broncos defence last week, they aren’t far off if they can start to hold the ball. They boast plenty of attacking talent. The issue is how little they’re able to deploy it given their NRL-high 13.7 errors per game. Jason Demetriou is well aware of where it is going wrong for the Rabbitohs and surely knows that simply holding onto the ball is enough to beat the Warriors at the moment. The Sharks maintained possession with 12 men while winning comfortably last week. Souths should employ a similar tactic on Saturday. With time in possession and some confidence built, the Rabbitohs will start to run away with this game towards the end.
