S&P’s decision to put Australia’s AAA rating on watch has prompted online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to offer odds on if and when it will be lost.

  • Sportsbet prices losing our AAA rating with S&P a $3.00 chance this year.
  • Odds of $1.35 are offered for the rating to remain at AAA.
  • 2017 is the favourite for when the rating will eventually be lost.

The good news is that losing the rating this year is a $3.00 chance but the bad news is that 2017 is tipped at $2.50 to be the year it drops.

Holding on until 2018 is offered at odds of $6.00 while 2019, later, or never is a $3.75 chance.

“The situation with the government has obviously caused concern but with that outcome to be resolved quite soon and a Coalition majority more and more likely, we aren’t tipping the rating to be lost, at least not in this calendar year,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
