With the series now tied 1-1 apiece, the odds have swung in the homes teams’ favour as Game 3 tips off from Perth on Friday night.
Melbourne lost by 10 last week when they traveled West, but they weren’t disgraced on the stat sheet. Despite the scoreline, United shot 45% from the field, but they’ll need to correct their woes from the three-point line if they wish to pull off an upset on the road.
For Perth, Sunday’s loss in Melbourne also held a lesson in consistency. The Wildcats fell by 18-point in what was a disappointing defensive display, particularly in the third-quarter. On the flip side, Perth’s offence completely fell apart in the second half, managing only 31-points.
Since we now have a feel for how these sides match up, it’s tough to back a Melbourne upset in Game 3. United haven’t won in Perth since January 2018, while it’s even harder to argue with the Wildcats’ impressive 12-3 record as the line favourite at home.
It’s reasonable to assume this game will be closer than their opening meeting in Perth, but the five-day rest surely plays into the hands of the hosts as we look headed for a five-game series thriller.
Odds:
Tip: Perth Wildcats at $1.60
