Port Adelaide Power vs Hawthorn Hawks Preview
The importance of a win this week can’t be overstated for Port.
Last week’s capitulation against Brisbane was a very worrying sign for head coach Ken Hinkley, and things aren’t about to get any easier with the likes of key defender Aliir Alliir, Xavier Duursma, and Travis Boak joining Chralie Dixon and Orazio Fantasia on the sideline.
The Hawks, meanwhile, will be looking to build on a strong win over North Melbourne in Sam Mitchell’s first game as coach.
It wasn’t the prettiest game of footy, but Chad Wingard and Jack Gunston both helped the Hawks over the line in the fourth quarter to kick off their new era in the win column.
Looking at the market, it is a little surprising to find Port as short as $1.24 head-to-head.
Basic skill errors and a very conservative game plan got in the way last week, and there’s still enough experience in this Hawthorn lineup to really give a half-strength Port side a run for their money.
In terms of history, this has been a rough fixture for the Hawks, though.
Hawthorn hasn’t defeated Port since 2019, while their last win at the Adelaide Oval came back in 2017.
Still, 26.5 points is a lot to cover, and with their defensive lynchpin Aliir Aliir missing, the Hawks might be able to make this a contest.
