Rebels vs Western Force Preview
The penultimate match of the Super Rugby Australia regular season will see the Rebels and Force do battle at McDonald Jones in Newcastle.
The Rebels’ fate remains in their own hands and it is black and white – beat the Force with a bonus point on Saturday afternoon and they will play the Reds next weekend’s Super Rugby Australia qualifying final, lose and the season is over.
They left the door open for the Waratahs when they failed to overcome that side last weekend, but they simply could not be offered a better opportunity to atone and to stay alive.
The Force, still chasing their first win of Super Rugby Australia, enter their final game of the season off the back of a spirited yet comfortable loss to the Brumbies.
They certainly did not look out of place in the first half of that match, even managing to open the scoring when Fergus Lee-Warner busted a tackle and crashed over.
Obviously, the Rebels deserve to start this match as favourites, but they have had a habit of beating themselves when everything is on the line, and I am confident that the Force can stick with them the whole way.
