John John Florence ($6.50) will be heading down Torquay as the punters’ pick as the best backed to claim his first Rip Curl Pro title.
The 9th ranked Brazilian Filipe Toledo ($5.50) is leading the charge as favourite, however, he hasn’t received much support from TAB customers with his best finish at Bells coming back in 2015 when fifth.
Defending champion and world number one Italo Ferreira ($6) will be looking to start the 2019 season off on a high as he aims to defend his title. Surfing legend Kelly Slater ($26) will be aiming to ring the bell for a record fifth time. He currently has four titles alongside Australian surfing legends Mark Richards and Mick Fanning.
Julian Wilson ($7) spearheads the Australians this year with the contingent also including Owen Right ($17), Wade Carmichael ($17) and Mikey Wright ($31).
Despite being at $9 to win the Women’s Bell’s Beach Crown Sally Fitzgibbon’s is holding 47 percent of the current market with Clarissa Moore her most likely challenger holding 18 percent. Australian Stephanie Gilmore remains the heavy favourite at $3.75.
