South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Canberra Raiders Preview
A couple of Magic Round winners get the Sunday schedule underway.
South Sydney was on course to run up a cricket score against the woeful Warriors but won by just two after leading 32-6 with 18 minutes left. The big positives for the 5-5 Rabbitohs were confident displays from Cody Walker and Lachlan Ilias, and a dominant performance from the likes of Tevita Tatola up front.
Canberra produced its best and biggest win of the season to go back-to-back for the first time, smashing Cronulla 30-10 despite have three players sin-binned.
The makeshift halves pairing of Brad Schneider and Matt Frawley was superb and forwards Joe Tapine and Hudson Young shone brightly in a win underpinned by defensive commitment.
Ricky Stuart has made the tough call to drop Schneider for the returning Jack Wighton, while Zac Woolford stays in the side ahead of 18th man Adam Elliott after a tryscoring NRL debut. Jacob Host (shoulder) has been replaced in the Rabbitohs side by rookie Trent Peoples.
The Raiders have won six of their last nine against the Rabbitohs, but Souths took out their sole 2021 clash – a 34-20 win at GIO Stadium in Round 8.
Good luck getting a definitive read on either of these teams at the moment. The Rabbitohs are struggling for week-to-week consistency, while the Raiders are only two weeks removed from a gigantic form slump.
