Sydney v GWS | Saturday, September 10, 3.20pm (AEDT), ANZ Stadium
Perhaps the most interesting match of week 1 of the finals has the established Swans pitted against the newcomers the Giants.
Ironically Sydney have several inexperienced players and the recent finals experience may not be the overwhelming advantage many think it could be.
The Giants have several players with finals experience like Heath Shaw, Shane Mumford, Ryan Griffen, Callan Ward and Steve Johnson to guide the youngsters.
The Swans got the better of GWS at the SCG back in round 3, but the rapidly improving Giants trounced Sydney in round 12 by 7 goals.
That day the Giants were tougher than the Swans and their ball movement was more precise and rapid.
The Swans form has improved sharply since that day, but Leon Cameron will know his team has the edge if the game doesn’t develop into a stoppage match.
Sydney have lost the advantage of playing at home and GWS can pounce to send the finals into an early tailspin and have them heading towards a premiership.
