The 149th edition of The Open Championship will tee off at Royal St George’s in Kent on Thursday night AEST and we are set for another thrilling tournament.
The Claret Jug is one of sport’s most coveted prizes, and the world’s best golfers will seek glory, their place in the history books and an enormous pay day to boot over four rounds at the Par 70 course.
Not since 2011 has Royal St George’s hosted The Open Championship and that year’s champion, Darren Clarke, will take his place in this year’s field at odds of $501.
Will Jon Rahm make it two majors in as many tournaments? Will a Brit record a home win? Check out my complete 2021 The Open Championship Tips below to find out who I’m looking at.
Jon Rahm ($8.00)
His form in 2021 has been nothing short of outstanding and Jon Rahm is a fitting favourite in The Open Championship betting.
The Spaniard is yet to finish outside the top ten at each of the first three majors this year, peaking of course with his maiden win at the US Open last month.
He arrives in England fresh from a month between tournaments and if he holds his form, he’ll be right in the finish after four rounds.
Tip:
Back Jon Rahm to win @ $8
Brooks Koepka ($15.00)
He is one of, if not the most consistent player in major tournaments on tour, and Brooks Koepka represents plenty of value in The Open Championship betting at odds of $15.
Perhaps most noteworthy this year for his reaction to Bryson DeChambeau after the PGA Championship, Koepka’s recent form has been the real story, and he has finished in the top five of three of his last four tournaments, including two majors.
He too is another player who will surely be in the thick of it on Day 4, he simply needs to hold his form.
Tip:
Back Brooks Koepka to Win @ $15
Viktor Hovland ($26)
Viktor Hovland was a late scratching from the US Open field last month, but his form prior was excellent, and he looms as a key winning chance at The Open Championship, at a lovely price.
Hovland doesn’t win out of turn, but his consistency has been key to another standout season on tour, and he returned two Top 5 finishes in May most notably.
Back to European conditions and fighting fit, this represents a great opportunity for him to strike.
Tip:
Back Viktor Hovland to win @ $26
Abraham Ancer ($67.00)
Abraham Ancer has returned plenty of pleasing efforts throughout the 2021 and has continued to fly under the radar, and I think that he represents plenty of value in The Open Championship betting, particularly to finish in the Top 10.
Ancer missed the cut at the US Open last month, but finished T8 at the PGA Championship and enters this tournament off the back of an impressive fourth at the Travelers Championship.
Tips:
Back Abraham Ancer to win @ $67
Back Abraham Ancer to finish in the Top 10 @ $6
Ian Poulter ($67)
Another player who has continued to fly under the radar recently is English veteran Ian Poulter, who was unlucky not to win last weekend’s Scottish Open.
Poulter loomed after three rounds at the US Open before falling away on the final day, but he has returned many competitive efforts and probably should have recorded another tour win.
We can back him to win The Open Championship at the big price, but I think that there is particularly good value in taking him to top the English charge at odds of $12.
Tips:
Back Ian Poulter to Win @ $67
Back Ian Poulter to be the top English player @ $12
