Golf fans around the world are celebrating after Tiger Woods won the US Masters for the fifth time less than an hour ago, but one TAB punter is lamenting Tiger’s return to prominence after a long-range Multi involving Brooks Koepka fell at the final leg.
On October 22 last year, the TAB customer in question placed three $125 Multi bets totalling $375 at the odds of $2284.80 on:
- Winx to win the 2018 Cox Plate $1.20
- Cross Counter to win the 2018 Melbourne Cup $17
- Aristia to win the 2018 VRC Oaks $8
- Brooks Koepka to win the 2019 US Masters $14
The TAB punter was looking at a potential collect of $856,800 in total, but elected to not ‘Cash Out’ any of the three Multis and as a result, they weren’t able to salvage a healthy dividend as a consolation.
“During the final round of the US Masters, a ‘Cash Out’ of around $70,000 would have been offered on one of the Multis to the customer with Koepka still in title contention,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“They could have collected that amount and held on to the other two Multis hoping that Koepka would manage to secure his fourth major championship, but they elected to ‘let it ride’ on all three Multis.”
Koepka – along with Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele – finished in a three-way tie for second at 12-under; one shot behind Woods.
‘Tiger’ had not won the US Masters since 2005, but three TAB customers in particular were roaring along with the majority of the patrons at Augusta National during the final round.
Two different punters wagered $1000 at $17 on Woods to win the US Masters before the tournament commenced, while another customer placed $1000 at $17 following the opening round.
Woods is a $10 second favourite to win the US PGA Championship – the next major tournament of 2019 – commencing on May 16 from Bethpage State Park in Bethpage, New York (Dustin Johnson $9 favourite).
Woods – a five-time winner of the US Masters and 15-time major champion – has been installed the $7 favourite with TAB to win the 2020 US Masters.
