The Turnbull Stakes (Race 7) over 2000m is the feature race at Flemington on Sunday and the short-priced favourite for the race is Hartnell.

He has come back a proper animal this time in and he’s a much better horse than he was this time last year.

He’s at prohibitive odds in the market and that is a worry because he doesn’t race well down here and the Godolphin operation is yet to train a Group 1 winner in Melbourne since John O’Shea took over the head training role.

The United States ran a cracker first-up in the Feehan and he’ll really appreciate getting onto the bigger track.

This horse is a quality animal and I’m happy to be with him because he’ll be ready to fire on Sunday. He has drawn perfectly and I like that Damien Oliver has been booked for the ride.

Preferment has been disappointing this prep but he loves this track and I expect a big improvement.

If you’re looking for a bit of value, then you can’t go past Happy Trails and Tally. Both horses are highly talented and I thought their last start efforts were very good.

Imagine what you could be buying instead.
