In the women’s draw, Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber and Sloane Stephens are the top four favourites.
I thought Garbine Muguruza would be better having won a major but she has tapered off a little and Caroline Wozniacki has also gone off the boil a little bit.
Petra Kvitova has been up and down since her comeback but I think she has the game having won at Wimbledon and I think her game is just as good on the hardcourts, so she’d be a pretty good outsider.
Halep is a top contender and I like how she’s a real workhorse and she’s a good chance of winning the open.
You have to give Serena a good chance and if she’s improved her fitness, she has the game to beat anybody.
Ash Barty’s chances are good and if she gets a fairly good draw without getting too many tough matches in the early rounds, she should get through and I think she’s going to put in a really good effort.
No reason why she can’t join all the top players in the last week of the tournament.
She’s keen and she moves well and I think her form will stay good for the whole tournament.
The Verdict
I picked Simona Halep to win the French Open and I also picked her to win Wimbledon and she has a lot to learn to play on grass but I think she has the game to win.
She’s confident, she’s a good competitor and I think her game is solid.
She has a good temperament and there’s no reason why she can’t win.
