We’re back to Warwick Farm on Wednesday for another quality eight-race metropolitan program and online bookmaker Ladbrokes previews the meeting.
The rail will be set out 3 metres around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Soft (6) range.
Race 1 – 1:30pm AEDT – Yarraman Park Easter Yearlings Handicap (1200m)
He’s making his debut, but I’m going to have something small on the well-bred Turgenev in the first on Wednesday.
By I Am Invincible and out of Gypsy Diamond, Turgenev has had three trials in the lead up to debuting, improving noticeably in each.
He’ll be steered by James McDonald and he can make a winning debut.
Race 2 – 2:05pm AEDT – Hyland Race Colours Plate (1300m)
Raoul is yet to record a race win, but he is also yet to return a poor effort, and he looks well placed to break through at Warwick Farm this week.
The Kermadec gelding has had four trips to the races for as many placings since debuting in December, and he enters this race off the back of a credible effort for third behind Rainbow Connection on the Kensington course at Randwick.
He’s fit and ready to fire.
Race 3 – 2:40pm AEDT – Benchmark 78 Handicap (2200m)
This is an intriguing race boasting several winning chances, but I am happy to stick with War Baron at around the $6 mark.
War Baron has always hinted at above average ability, but he looks to finally be realising it this prep, and recorded a dominant win at Hawkesbury before charging in to only just miss at Randwick-Kensington last time.
He looks to be at peak fitness and is drawn to receive the run of the race, with only 54kgs in tow.
Race 4 – 3:20pm AEDT – Pinatubo New To Darley Handicap (1600m)
Relucent clearly needed the run when he finished sixth over 1400m when resuming a fortnight ago, but he is a horse that typically enjoys sharp improvement into his second-up starts, and he’ll also relish getting out to a mile.
The Savabeel gelding has been a good horse for the Waller stable throughout his career, and he has picked off many races like this one along the way.
He’ll get some relief in the weights with Campbell Rawiller aboard and he should be able to lob into a nice spot from barrier 7.
Race 5 – 4:00pm AEDT – Robrick Lodge Handicap (1600m)
This is a rise in class fort Eleusa, but she could hardly have been more impressive at Hawkesbury last time, and she can continue her transition through the grades.
The Godolphin-trained filly has recorded two wins and as many second placings from her four career starts, and she returned to the races to finish second behind All Hallows’ Eve at Newcastle before scoring over the likes of Yardstick and Seleque last time.
Fitter third-up and under the conditions of this race, she’ll take beating again.
Race 6 – 4:40pm AEDT – Sky Racing Active Handicap (1400m)
This is probably the strongest race on Wednesday’s card and there are a host of winning chances, including Phemonoe.
Phemonoe has returned plenty of impressive efforts during her eleven career starts, and she is another runner who looks to have returned to the races a more furnished prospect this time.
Having finished a head second at Canterbury when resuming, the Hallowed Crown mare charged in at Hawkesbury last time, and I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.
Race 7 – 5:20pm AEDT – Vinery Stud Handicap (1100m)
Plaquette boasts a class edge over the lion’s share of these rivals and with even luck from the wide draw, she can make a winning return.
Plaquette has typically contested tougher races than this one during her career, and was an impressive winner at Randwick-Kensington when resuming last time.
She continued to return good efforts in Saturday company during her resulting campaign and she has had the benefit of a nice trial in the lead-up to her return.
Race 8 – 5:55pm AEDT – XXXX Handicap (1300m)
Typically, we’re faced with a tough end to the program and at publish, it’s $6 the field.
The Grinder hasn’t been seen at the races since December and will be making his Australian debut, but he was excellent during his last prep in New Zealand and found form around some excellent horses.
He’s had the benefit of a couple of trials leading up to this race, James McDonald rides and at around the $10 mark, we can have an each-way play.
